Prepare work area with full safety –
At very first, consider your safety system. You should wear harness, eyewear and hearing protection. At the ends of your home, put on a drip edge. This drip edge is a metal lip that keeps water dripping away from roof. Pull this edge sung against house and use nail gun to protect it. At both the ends of edge, cut metal with tin snips and bend it around its corners. Next, you can install ice and water should.
Use of Tar Paper –
Now, you need to use tar paper. Use it in 15 to 30 pounds weight. The 30 pound tar is thicker and highly prevents moisture to buildup. In case of flat roof, you need to put down two layers of tar. Put tar paper down by rolling it.
Place Starter Shingles –
Place starter shingles around the edge of your house. It will help you in placing shingles straight. There will be a book which is prepared of five smaller shingles of different lengths and allow you to stagger seams. Cut books with blade. On the shingle’s pack, there will be the instructions; you may follow them.
Ready to Shingle –
Now your home is ready to shingle. You should use a roofing coiler and to use it you will need an air compressor. The air compressor gives power to the coiler. To connect roofing coiler with air compressor you will need an air hose. Start with the left corner of the house and work all over from bottom to top. In this you need to follow below mentioned instructions –
· Line up first shingle with starter shingle then nail it down.
· Place book (five small shingles of different lengths) and nail down.
· Repeat it up the house to the top.
· Go back down and repeat it next to the shingles you’ve laid
